EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: When I have a site that needs to be split into separate files before upload and then put back together after I have the extra files left over. My dropbox account keeps the parts of the backup and the final backup. How do I make it only keep the final version?

dlb
The split archives do not "reassemble." The entire set of files, jpa, j01, j02, etc. are required to restore your site.

When I backed up my site that required parting the archive It made all the parts of it along with an archive that matched all the others size combined. Does dropbox not remake the archive into one once all the parts are uploaded?

dlb
No, the files of a split archive are not reassembled. Kickstart knows how to extract the archive from the individual files.

Could you explain in more detail the documentation what enabling chuck uploading does when configuring dropbox?

dlb
Ah! We are talking about two completely different things. I think I know what is wrong, but I need to run some tests.

That would be great, thank you.

If there is any more information that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry for the delay, I have had a crazy busy day.

I couldn't reproduce the issue on my Dropbox account. I'm going to ask Nicholas if he has seen this before.

There are two different technologies that may be in play here. I'm still not sure which one we're having problems with.

The Dropbox API limits uploaded files to 100 Mb. In order to upload a file larger than 100 Mb, you need to split it into parts. There are two ways to do that, both are found under Configuration.
  1. Split Archive - this is under the Archiver Engine, in the Configure settings. If you set the part size to 99.99 Mb, the archive will be split into parts with a maximum size of 99.99 Mb each. The parts are named jpa, j01, j02, etc. All of the parts of the archive must be present to extract the archive. This type of split does not reassemble into a single file.
  2. Chunk size - this is under Data Processing Engine and is an option while setting up the Dropbox post processing. This will take a file larger than 100 Mb and, while uploading the file, will spit it into chunks for upload and the chunks are then reassembled by Dropbox into a single archive file. You should never see the chunks, they are an invisible part of the communication between the website and Dropbox.
If you still have questions about this process, please zip and post your backup log to allow me to follow what is happening more accurately.

Here is the log file of the issue that I am having. I have enabled chunk upload and do not want to split my archive.

dlb
It won't work. :-(

Your backup file is about 1 Gb. Dropbox has two APIs, the private one is used by Dropbox only. We use the public API. I can drop your 1 Gb file into my Dropbox on my desktop and the private API will transport it to their server. The public API has a file size limit of 512 Mb, so we can't transfer that same file after performing the backup. It just won't work, even with the chunk feature. You have to split the archive if you want to use Dropbox for the post processing target.
