EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hello, upload to Dropbox for my backup (270MB) I had to split the archive into parts of 2mb on dropbox now I am more than 100 pieces of backup!
Is there a way to have a single 270MB file from the dropbox instead of 100 parts of backup?

Yes, you can. Go to Akeeba Backup's Upload to Dropbox configuration and check the "Enable chunk upload" checkbox. You may want to change the Chunk Size below it to something smaller (probably 5 or less) if the upload fails. Please note that you'll also have to set the Part Size for Split Archives to 100Mb (larger files may fail to upload to Dropbox due to Dropbox API limitations).

As you can read in the documentation, enabling this option uses a new feature in the Dropbox API which allows us to send a big file to Dropbox in small chunks. Once all chunks are sent we ask Dropbox to "reassemble" the single, big file. We added support for this new Dropbox API feature exactly for cases like yours!

hello, I have enabled, chunk upload, changed Chunk Size to 2mb, but Split Archives to 100Mb I do not know where to set it

dlb
The Part size for split archives setting is found under Configuration, Advanced configuration, Archiver engine, Configure.

Hello, I set to 5mb and Chunk Size Split Archives to 125MB, but the dropbox you create 2 files.
I also need to delete the old files if possible in automatic mode

thanks
Piero

The Dropbox public API has a maximum file size of 100 Mb, that is why Nicholas told you to use a 100 Mb part size for your split archive.

You can put files larger than 100 Mb into Dropbox, but only through their own interface, they don't follow their own rules.

ok but why on dropbox with a backup 213mb I'm three rows of backup?
From your instructions I figured out that Dropbox is reassembled into a single file

user84610

dlb
This is correct. You need all three parts to restore your backup. This is the result that we expected.

The chunk size that you set in the Dropbox setup controls how much data is sent to Dropbox at one time. Dropbox reassembles the chunks into a single file on their end.

The Part size for split archives actually splits your backup archive into multiple pieces, all of those pieces are needed to restore your backup. We need to split the file into pieces because Dropbox will not allow us to upload a 213 Mb file. We have to split it into two 100 Mb files and one 13 Mb file.

You are using both of these techniques to upload your backup file to Dropbox.

does good morning, the same backup divided in parts from 100mb become large 315mb even if with filezilla single measure 215mb, it is perhaps a bug that finds a greater measure even if it is smaller?

dlb
No, changing the part size would not cause a significant increase in the total size of the archive. The size would not be exactly the same, but pretty close.

Something changed in your backup. There is a new file or folder that is being backed up that changed the archive size. If you can not find the file, please upload a new backup log and I will take a look.

dlb
Now I understand. Nicholas is looking at this, trying to figure out what is happening.

Good morning, in addition to the bag I also reported these errors by analyzing the log.
I do not understand what I need to change to eliminate

dlb
Nicholas couldn't reproduce it Friday afternoon on his systems. What you are seeing is very much not normal. I'll follow up with Nicholas in the morning to see where we go from here.

Hello, I deleted cron and inserted a new one, now it seems to work correctly, just by analyzing the log ALICE I always two errors that I can not solve, I would not want to affect the recovery of the backup

dlb
I am glad that problem seems to have solved itself.

Can you please post the log that you are running ALICE on?

Did you try the timing setting suggested by the report?

I do not know what parameters to change

dlb
I can't find what ALICE is complaining about in the log file.

The timing settings are under Configuration, all the way at the bottom under Fine Tuning. Make sure you are adjusting the configuration for the profile you are using in your CRON job.

also place the configuration

dlb
For the Backup engine saving issues, please edit your Configuration, under Basic Configuration, check the Use database storage for temporary data box.

has still remained a problem

dlb
This is a different error than the "can't save state" error. You have different timing settings set from trying to solved the "can't save state" error. First, run the Configuration Wizard. That will try to figure out the fastest timing settings that will work with your server. The ones that ALICE is giving you are "problem" settings, intended to slow down the backup to avoid problems.

I've already done but I have always the same problem

dlb
Please go to your Akeeba Backup Configuration page and try setting:

Minimum execution time: 1 second
Maximum execution time: 10 seconds
Runtime bias: 75%

If this still fails please try the conservative settings:

Minimum execution time: 5 second
Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, the maximum is less than the minimum, it's not a typo)
Runtime bias: 50%

If the backup still will not complete, please post another backup log.

I tried to change the settings but I always reports the two errors with ALICE, the backup ends but 'properly

dlb
The important part is that your backup completed successfully and uploaded to Dropbox successfully.

ALICE is a tool that we use to point us in a direction when a backup fails. We really don't have to keep her happy if nothing is wrong with the backup.
