restoring backup results in the attached image, i have changed the filename of the kickstart script and still get this error.

Your actual problem is that the .php file does not get executed, it gets output as if it's a regular .html file.
Try deleting your .htaccess file and run Kickstart again. If this doesn't help, talk to your host; something is up with your hosting.
