I am restoring a backup of my site onto my server to test some codes; I uploaded all 41 parts into a folder, and then tried to upload kickstart.php and I keep getting an error that says "The upload failed. The server indicated HTTP error 403 ()."

I also tried uploading the pro version of kickstart, too; but that didn't work.

I even tried to upload kickstart first into a separate folder.

I changed my folder permissions to 0777 so I shouldn't have a problem I don't think.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your host is blocking Kickstart's requests. The most likely culprit is an Apache mod_security2 rule. Please ask them to inspect the error log of your site for requests to /kickstart.php which are blocked with 403 and help you disable the rule which causes that.

If they create a .htaccess file or tell yo to create / modify one, please move this file one folder level above your site's web root. Kickstart will try to remove the .htaccess file when restoring a site.

Thank you.

I contact HostGator and they suggested I upload with an FTP system, which I did. The kickstart.php uploaded successfully.

I then tried to go to the URL of my site where I have the folder with the Kickstart in it, and received this 403 error message: "It appears you don't have permission to access this page. 403 Error. Forbidden."

Question: is this the same problem as you described above with my host blocking this?

Thank you

Also: I checked my error logs and there is nothing on them mentioning Kickstart

Do you have a .htaccess file in your web root? If you do, try deleting it.

If this still does not help, contact your host. It is possible they have misconfigured the ownership / permissions of the site's web root.
