I do not understand how this happened but the last backup I had was around 840 MB and now it is over 2GB. I have excluded any extraneous files in the root folder and the akeeba backup folder. Any idea what may have caused this?

Also, I installed the backup(2gb) to a subdomain to check it's integrity. I was able to log into the back end, but when I tried to see the front, I got this error:

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '/home/customer/www/mydomain.com/public_html/libraries/import.legacy.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php74/pear') in /home/customer/www/mydomain.com/public_html/includes/framework.php on line 17

Can you help?

You said that you installed a site in a subdomain. Most hosting control panels put the subdomain panels in a subdirectory of your main site. Unless you explicitly exclude this in Akeeba Backup's configuration, it will be backed up. This would explain why the backups size doubled.

Regarding the errors you get, it sounds like not all files are present. Did you have any errors during the extraction of the backup archive, or any warnings while taking the backup? Is it possible that you have excluded the libraries/import.legacy.php file from the backup?

Thank you for your prompt response. The subdomain is outside the root public_html directory, and has its own public_html directory where I installed the backup.

I excluded any files/directories using the interface in Akeeba for the backup.

I did not get any warnings other than that there is a later version of Akeeba backup, but I am using Joomla 3 so I am using the latest Akeeba backup 8.3.3 for Joomla 3.

I had no issue restoring the site-no errors, just when I wanted to view the front end.

The import.legacy.php file is in the libraries folder.

About the double size: then you are definitely backing up some old backup or other cruft. Check the log file for the words "large file" and see where that gets you. Also check if you accidentally made a copy of a big folder manually, e.g. the administrator or components folder.

About the site, if the files are there and PHP cannot find them: please ask your host. Based on the information I am given, something is wrong with the server setup.
