HI There,

Desktop machine running windows 10 pro on 64 bit, 16gb ram 1 TB hard drive, Twin screens

On Saturday I restored to my local machine running a bitnami session one of my backups of 1 of 2 webs.

It was successful. I then deleted all files in the localhost htdocs folder on the Sunday and tried to restore the second of my webs.

What happens is that I can see the temp files being created but they stop after about 2 - 4 minutes.
It appears to stop at different files though sometimes on the error.log file which was 74MB.

I tried all default settings before changing the extract timings 5 and 1, 10 and 1, 5 and 10, 7 and 10, 7 and 1. All yield the same result. appears to stop approximately 4 minutes into the extraction.

The first web was about 180 MB the second is 610mb.

I also tried to restore using kickstart 5.5 and got Ajax errors which led me to changing the timings but again same thing.

I also tried two different dated backups 28/02/19 and 02/03/19 in case of corruption.

PS, Have tried a third backup without the error.log file - same thing, just hangs

Appreciate any input, Thanks

Hello,

do you have any error message or it just "hangs"?
Can you please enable the debug mode in Kickstart? Open the kickstart file and search for the string KSDEBUG (it should be in the first lines) and remove the two leading slashes. Then start the extraction process again.
A new file will produced, named debug.log., it will contain all the steps Kickstart is doing while extracting the archive. Can you please zip it and attach it here?

As a closing note, you should never ever include the error_log file since it could case your archives to get corrupted.

HI Davide,

I have run the debug as suggested and it produces 2 files kickstart_error_log and debug.txt.

Did you want both or just the error log?

PS I can confirm that the error.log on the live site is excluded from backup.
PS, the programs hangs, no error messages whatsoever.

Cheers

Please attach them both, let's see what's going on.

confirmation of exclusion from live site

kemble
HI Davide,

I think I may be able to share more after looking further into my site

As noted above Akeeba confirmed that error.log was excluded but I noticed when restoring that it appeared to want to restore the file (it did hang showing error.log as the current file being restored) even though it would appear to be excluded.

This morning I triple checked the exclusion and attached two pngs showing
1 the root files fro host with 1 error.log file
2 akeeba file list showing 2 error.log files.

However I decided to do a new live backup, which I downloaded and tried to restore. This one went way further than any others and I honestly thought it was going to go all the way; however eventually it stopped.

I also have the debug info for that. Would you like me to zip it and upload here?

Cheers

I was going to report what you found about the error_log being still included.
Before continuing any further, please get inside each Akeeba Backup profile configuration and double check that the option Exclude error logs is enabled.
Then take another backup. If it still fails, please create a new debug file and attach it here.

you mean this, yes enabled

Funny thing about settings is I have never ever changed the settings from default original installation years ago. I have restored many times without issue.

kemble
This is the debug from the last restore this morning (having triple check error.log was excluded) that went way beyond the previous and no error. log file appeared yet still stalled.

If you require backend access on live site I am happy to grant such.

I can see two things:
1) Are you using the Hybrid restoration system? If so, it seems you have a missing (or disabled) PHP function, ftp_close. Please triple check that you are using the method "direct write" instead of the Hybrid one. In the meantime I'll investigate on this issue and avoid using the Hybrid engine if any FTP function is disabled/missing
2) Looking at the log, the file ends with a dot. This means that it has an empty extension, which is not allowed under Windows. Please double check that the option Ignore most errors is checked while starting the extraction process.

Thanks Davide,

I have never ever altered any of the akeeba settings from original default installation.

Can you advise please where to find the Hybrid/ direct write settings as I cannot see anything in configuration

All my 3 webs are on default akeeba install settings.

Cheers
PS cannot see anywhere to checkbox the "ignore most errors"

You can find both of them on Kickstart main page, I just attached a screenshot for reference

Well I am stupid. :) I thought you meant akeeba back up.

I clearly left my brain in bed this morning HAHA.

Will try again.

DOH!!!

Hi Davide,

We have good news and NO BAD NEWS :)

The site has restored without problems.

Clearly for silly people like me , who accept program defaults, I need to up my game and start reading the parameters before use.

Direct writing is clearly the answer but what is strange Is I used 6.01 the previous day and restored another site without problems using the default settings.

Thank you for your help and great patience.
I will close the ticket
